What is Hillbilly Proud?
Hillbilly Proud is a multi media company that started in 2004 out of Morgantown, WV that specializes in off road and cultural videos.
Why does an off road video company do scenic and cultural videos?
We are from West Virginia and we absolutely love it. The scenery and blue collar traditions of our home state are very close to our hearts and we want to share that with everyone. Hillbillies all over the world come to our page to watch videos and feel a little closer to their mountain homes. We also want to make sure that our history is kept alive. We will not be the generation that forgets what those that came before us went through to survive and make life better for us who came after them.
Family friendly?
We make efforts to keep all of our videos and music used in them family friendly. Young kids are some of our biggest fans and we want to make sure their parents feel comfortable with them watching our internet videos and DVDs. It is more challenging to make videos both hardcore and family friendly, but it is worth the effort when toddlers tell us how much they love the videos. One of the most common comments we hear from parents is that kids won't stop watching the DVDs. If you see or hear something that you think crosses the line please let us know.
Where did the skull logo come from?
Hillbilly Proud designer Brian Pickens came up with the now famous skull logo. The coal miner skull and cross bones represents the blue collar heritage that we come from. When times get tough we just stare at the logo and remember how hard those who came before us worked and how hard those around us continue to work. Owner Keith McCoy's family has been in the mines for at least five generations and he grew up in a steelworker town where he saw his father regularly work overtime and days off to support his family. Brian Pickens' uncle was getting ready to go into the mine at Sago when it exploded. The logo represents our hard working heroes of now and then and we hope blue collar workers from the shipyards to the farms can take it to heart.
How does Hillbilly Proud make money?
Your purchases of our merchandise is what keeps us going. Our products are available for purchase on this site, at local retailers, and when we are at events. We thank all of you for your support and we enjoy the love of off road motor sports and hillbilly culture that we share with our viewers and supporters.
Why are the DVDs so affordable?
Hillbilly Proud wants to make sure that every working man can afford the DVDs. The prices are also set at a level that we hope discourages people from burning copies instead of purchasing them. The low prices help us expand the awareness and availability of the off road motor sports we cover. Top quality videos at a reasonable rate is what you will always find at Hillbilly Proud.
Why is there no talking in the videos?
Because we love the action! We cover racing and we want our videos to have that same adrenaline filled feeling you get at the races. The monster truck engine sounds rumbling through the speakers into your house doesn't need watered down with speech. We add the rock soundtrack just to get the heart pumping a little faster, but we are even cutting back on that a little bit this year in favor of just pure engine power. With our DVDs it is our goal to see exactly how much action we can stuff into them. We guarantee that you will see a ton of great trucks racing, crawling, pulling, and climbing in our DVDs. "Gravel Rock" and "Mud Nation Vol. 1" are both one hour and forty five minutes of nonstop action!
Why are there no credits on the DVDs and videos?
Why are there production credits on movies and DVDs? You don't see credits on anybody else's work. It isn't about us. It is about you and what you want to see. Knowing the video is Hillbilly Proud is good enough.
